Goodnight Dearest Yeoman – Remembering Celeste Yarnall 1944-2018

It is with a very heavy heart that I report today that our friend Celeste Yarnall has passed away. Surrounded by her loving family, she will never be forgotten.   She is forever remembered to us Trek fans as Yeoman Martha Landon in The Apple, but she was so much more.

Celeste and her beloved Nazim in 2013. Soulmates so happy together.

Celeste passed on Sunday night after a hellish battle with cancer which began as ovarian four years ago and evolved into lung cancer recently.  I can only imagine how awful it was when it was reported recently that she had non-stop coughing, pain, and mucus from the lung invasion.  When I read that she was in hospice, I suspected that she was soon to be on her final celestial journey.  I send my deepest condolences and comfort to her husband Nazim, daughter Cami, and granddaughter Gaby.  You were her rock and her heart.

I first became friends with Celeste through Facebook.  It was there I had learned of her cancer and I was determined to help her raise money through her cancer fund to help her with medical payments. I had sent her my interpretation of her Star Trek episode, The Apple, as a movie poster: 

She liked it so much, she printed it up big and displayed it frequently at her autograph signings!  I was so honored.  

 

Inspired, I created numerous Star Trek ‘funnies‘ depicting her in her role as Yeoman Martha Landon in The Apple with Trek characters encouraging donations, like this one:                                                                                                       I also like making artistic portraits of her as Martha the occasional collages for her business ventures like Bemer and Hemp Oil. She really enjoyed these, and was so gracious and thankful when she posted them on her blogs.   I hope they helped.

One of the first things I did after making Celeste’s acquaintance was making her a pretty peach floral pillowcase.  We often conversed through Facebook and I had the joyous fortune of several phone conversations with her, and we would talk health, family, and occasionally Elvis and Star Trek.   She was so funny and dear, and very passionate about letting people know about wellness and the promise of Immunotherapy, which helped her battle the ovarian cancer. She was comforting to me when I was going through my time with minor breast cancer,(Stage 0 – now free) which was nothing compared to hers.  But she understood my fears, and gave me comfort, which helped me through it. Forever grateful.

My only regret is that I never got to meet her personally.  I couldn’t really afford a trip to Las Vegas to see her in one of her annual appearances there.  If I had known this year’s would be her last, I’d have happily gone into credit debt to see her.  But that is life, and I am so blessed that I got to know her in these past few years.

When I heard of her hospice care, I immediately started making a photo book for her through a photo site.  It was a collection of all the funnies and posters I made for her. Sadly, although it is on its way as I write this, she’ll never see it.  But I truly hope that Nazim and Cami will take comfort in it as a memorial.   They have worked so hard for her, and I pray they know that all their efforts were not in vain.

Celeste’s last artistic request to me was for a poster that read “Keep Calm and Beam Me Up” I made the one below, and she was very pleased.  Yet I can’t help but think that she knew the end was coming, and this was her subtle way of saying goodbye. And now that she has beamed up to the celestial heavens,  I know she will be welcomed there with all the love and more that she had on Earth.  Goodnight  Dearest, Sweet Yeoman, my friend.   You are forever in my heart. ❤

 

 

 

 

Prayers for Celeste Yarnall – Now in Hospice

Dear Friends,

Our dear friend and lovely human being Celeste Yarnall (Yeoman Martha Landon in ‘The Apple”) going through an absolute hellish time right now.  As you may recall from my previous posts, Celeste has been dealing with Ovarian Cancer for several years now, and although she is now free of her ovarian cancer, the damned disease has now claimed her lungs.  And she is now receiving home and hospice care for her condition.  And praying for a miracle.

As Celeste wrote a few days ago:

Today a decision was made to set up home hospice for me with palliative care and of course my beloved husband Nazim is the most amazing angel on the planet and is right by my side as is my wonderful daughter and sone in law but these folks can give me IV fluids, pain meds and we soon find out what else they can do.

We’ve increased my oxygen flow but the cough, spasms and suffocating mucus along with the pain in my chest has made my life absolutely miserable.

I’ve not been able to sleep…

This is heartbreaking for me.  I’ve been friends with Celeste through FB for several years now, and I have enjoyed supporting her cancer fund, and sending her little collages with her Trek character and messaging each other from time to time.  She is an amazing woman with a big smile and an even bigger heart.  I am so happy and honored to know her, and thankful for her friendship, especially as I was also dealing with a (much smaller) case of breast cancer in 2014 (now 4 years clear, amen).

I am so very sad to hear that she is going through hellish coughing spells that make it difficult for her to speak and sleep.  I ask you all to please pray very hard for Celeste, her family, friends,  and her beloved daughter Cami,  and husband Nazim, who have been her rock all this time.

And Celeste I hope you know that I’m praying for you too, and that I am so thankful to know you are my friend. You have often referred to me as ‘your angel’, please know that you are MY angel too, and I, and all the readers here at Trekker Scrapbook love you too.  Sending many hugs and healing thoughts and prayers. Rest well and know you are surrounded by LOVE.

Happy Birthday Celeste Yarnall!

Today we wish a very special Happy Birthday to our beautiful friend and Star Trek guest star Celeste Yarnall!  (Yeoman Martha Landon in The Apple)

As many of you know, Celeste has been dealing with Stage 4 Ovarian cancer for nearly 4 years now, and unfortunately  it has returned.  However, Celeste is fighting it  with immuno-therapy and chemo, and she is carrying on with the strength of a tiger!  Let’s make this a special birthday for her and please contribute any bit you can to Celeste’s Cancer treatment fund .  You can read all of her updates and contribute there.  After 3+ years, she is nearly up to her goal of $55,000!   We have really helped her with her medical expenses, and every bit really helps! Sad Update From Celeste Yarnall, Please lend Prayers and Support to her Cancer Fund.

 

 

Dear Friends,

Earlier this month our beautiful friend Celeste Yarnall (Yeoman Landon in The Apple) discovered that, sadly,  her Ovarian Cancer has returned.  Fortunately it was found early, but again this will add a great emotional and financial burden to her and her family.  As you recall, I’ve been promoting Celeste’s GoFundMe page for nearly two years now, and as of today she is within only $7000 of her final goal of $50,000.  I’m asking you please to support her cancer treatment fund any way you can now.  I’m hoping she will not need a second cancer fund, but every bit helps.

Celeste, you’re in our hearts and prayers.  Take care of yourself, for you are very precious to all of us.  Thank you for your projects that help us help ourselves and our animals. Here’s her update from June 10th:

This is an UPDATE, dear friends that I hoped I would not have to make:

My last physical exam with the cancer team of doctors at Cedars Sinai was a good one and Nazim and I were over the moon about that. In fact we actually celebrated this news with a visit to the Getty Museum on a truly beautiful day.
Before the exam, as usual they did my CA125 ovarian cancer marker, blood test and the results came in to my doctor about a week later. And for the first time in 2 1/2 years it was suddenly, out of the normal range and so my nurse called me to tell me that they were concerned and wanted to schedule a CAT/PET scan as soon as possible. I had those scans done last week and then went back to go over them with the doctor the day following the tests. Sadly we learned that the same ovarian cancer has returned in the very same place as before, in the form of tiny little seed like growths on the wall of the peritoneal cavity. They are very small at this point and difficult to measure but they are too numerous to count.

The Peritoneum is the lining of our abdomen that encases most of our organs.

There is some good news and that is, we are catching it early and the other good news is that I feel great right now and would never believe this was happening. I also do NOT have to endure another surgery as we did the first time around in November of 2014, which was 8 to 10 hours and caused be to be in the hospital for 4 weeks! It has been a rough ride over the 2 1/2 years but we kept smiling because I have been in remission all this time but I know that was a gift and believe me there was never a moment where I was not truly grateful.

So I will begin another 6 rounds of chemo this coming Thursday June 15th and be doing one treatment per month. We have scheduled the treatments and the medications so that I will still be able to attend the big Star Trek convention in August and another business convention in October. I hope there will be more opportunities as the doctors want me to live my normal life and continue my positive mind set as usual!

One of the chemo drugs I will be getting will be the same as before which is Carboplatin and then they are also adding a new one which I didn’t have before. I made the mistake of googling the new drug and nearly passed out!

I have as most of you know been doing every holistic protocol under the sun including CBD and THC oils for some time now however, even my holistic doctor says I must do the chemo and support my body through the ordeal with all my other protocols. The problem is that the holistic protocols, such as CBD/THC are not covered by insurance and the cannabis products are expensive as are the monthly costs for the supplements and some other things my team has in mind for me.

Nazim and I keep wondering what on earth caused this cancer to come back and we feel that one of the things that may have caused it to override the immunotherapy is that I was not able to return (because of the cost) to Grand Cayman for my two booster immunotherapy vaccines. Each trip is $5000 (treatment and travel costs) and we just couldn’t raise the funding to go back, so now the plan is to do our best to raise the funding and go back to Grand Cayman when I finish the 6 rounds of chemo, to boost up my immune system again and hopefully complete the treatment schedule. This is aimed at taking place in December, hopefully.

My husband Nazim took me to see Wonder Woman on Wednesday, which we so enjoyed and he said now I have to be Wonder Woman again and kick this cancer to the curb using everything there is available in the Standard of Care and the world of holistic health options, which I am very well versed in as an author and practitioner for 25+ years and I believe I am doing all that I can do but so need your help again financially to be able to afford them.
As you may imagine ones work does suffer during chemo because of the side effects and fatigue however I have been working so hard lately to build our businessess and I have been so excited to be active in our various art of Wellness businesses but now I have to spend quite a bit of time going back and forth to Cedars for the treatments and all the appointments in between for blood work and physical exams. Our drive to and from Cedars each time is 2 hours. I take my laptop and do my best to keep up with everything and that also keeps my mind active and makes me feel like I am still hopefully being of value to others as I pay the BEMER device forward, share Nazim’s art and our VIDA wearable art, as well.

Both my husband Nazim and I thank you in advance for anything you might be able to contribute to help me and this will of course be so appreciated.
As you know I share these updates here not just for myself but also to bring awareness to ovarian cancer to women everywhere. Remember my first symptom was abdominal bloating and I thought I just thought I needed to loose weight and to do a cleanse. I actually did a 40 day juice fast and cleanse and when I look back I realize that I wasted so much time trying to deal with this myself and self diagnose, which kept me from seeing the doctor and then when I finally did see my GYN in my case that found this cancer, later than sooner..it was then stage 3 to be exact. So please be proactive with your own health and do all you can for prevention. It is also so important for us women to see our Gynecologist regularly as this is a cancer that is not found easily.

Let’s all LIVE LONG AND PROSPER AND SOAR LIKE BUTTERFLIES making the most of every second we are blessed to enjoy living on our beloved Mother Earth.

Update and Prayers for Celeste Yarnall

Dear Friends,   Please keep our friend Celeste Yarnall (Yeoman Martha Landon, The Apple) in your prayers, and let’s continue to send her healing thoughts. As you may recall, Celeste was diagnosed with  Stage 3 Ovarian cancer in November of 2014.  With the help of surgery and immunotherapy, Celeste has been cancer free since August of 2015. Most recently, she has had successful hip surgery, and as you can imagine, her medical bills are practically continuous. I urge you to please contribute to Celeste’s GoFundMe account to help with expenses.  The good news is that she is finally under $10,000 toward her final goal of $50,000 ($40,070)

However,  a new challenge was discovered today, a form of skin cancer on her  left cheek (Squamous Cell Carcinoma).  She is awaiting to have surgery scheduled  to remove the lesion.

Yet despite this frustrating news, Celeste posted pictures of her cheek before and after the biopsy to let us see what it looks like.  I’m so thankful that she took this opportunity, in the midst of all this, to share these images, and to show us what a skin carcinoma looks like.  I have no doubt that these images will help thousands of people who have questions about their own skin.

Here is Celeste’s message that she posted today:

Hello Everyone,

I just got a little scary news from a biopsy I had done last week, on a suspicious lesion on my face (my left cheek). I had already had it biopsied a few years ago and it then it was not something to worry about and I had it treated then with what was deemed appropriate but now it has come back and is more serious.

It is called Squamous Cell Carcinoma and I am awaiting a date for the surgical procedure which will be done at a surgery center to remove it. The doctor will excise it, and hopefully be able to give me clean margins and do the reconstruction on my cheek all at one time. This is not the best Christmas present in the world but I am coping with the news and awaiting the date for this surgical procedure which will be done in a surgery center.

I will keep you all posted and am so grateful to you all for all your help and blessings thus far. This is a different type of cancer then what I have been dealing with (ovarian/peritnea)..as I said and this is a type of skin cancer which is called Squamous cell but it is not connected to my history..it is UVA exposure and what’s weird I have kept my face out of the sun all my life but UVA light coming in from the windows of our cars are lethal for this type of thing.

I still have to go back to Grand Cayman soon to PerseusPCI for one of two booster immunotherapy personalized cancer vaccine’s and we are still raising money for that effort so anything you can do to help as this facial surgery precludes me from being filmed right now and doing other income producing events which i was so hoping to be able to do now that my hip replacement surgery is healing nicely.

I will be at the Hollywood Show January 6th thru 8th but may have a bandage on my cheek but I love you all and want to see everyone who is coming out to see me and all the other Star Trek actors.

The first photo is of me at the doctors office, before the doctor did the biopsy and then a close up of what the lesion looked like and then a photo of me just after the procedure before the doctor put in 3 stitches..I am sharing this so you all and others can see what this is all about and not let something suspicious on your skin go un-treated…I have bared my soul here thus far to be of service and I am doing that again… you can see in the photo’s I am obviously stressed but now we have the results which are as I said Squamous Cell Carcinoma and I will move forward hoping all will be ok, first and foremost for my general health and secondly, how I look after this so I might be able to work again in film if possible.

Please do not ever ignore something suspicious on your skin!!

Battle of the Star Trek Dolls!

Okay, so it isn’t really a battle, but it’s definitely a siren call to the hearts of Trekkies everywhere; lifelike Star Trek dolls that celebrate the series’ 50th anniversary. From Mattel to Matchbox, every toy dealer wants a piece of the anniversary cake!

Mattel’s 50th Anniversary Star Trek Set

Just this week it Mattel released pictures of its new line of commemorative Star Trek Barbies dolls: A trio featuring Kirk, Spock, and Uhura. I’m happy to see Uhura in the mix, but the first question popping up all over is “Where’s McCoy and Scotty?” And I agree, but I’d amend that to “Where’s Everyone Else?”

Now I confess, for a while there, I was a Barbie collector (I still have a dozen or so unboxed, sleeping peacefully in a storage bin). But I’ve seen other movie and TV-based Barbie collections over the years; Twilight, Mad Men, Hunger Games,  and often the company has created more than 3 characters from each franchise.  I just hope they’ll consider adding McCoy, Scotty, Sulu, Chekov, Chapel and Rand too!

At $35 each, these Mattel ones are not top-of-the-line, but they do have beautiful facial recreations of Bill, Leonard, and Nichelle.   I love that they included Uhura’s classic green hoop earrings and her distinct eye makeup.   I only wish they gave her seamless bendable knees, as they do in regular Barbie dolls.  I think she would have looked more realistic with the wonderful curvy body mold of the new dolls coming out. The Kirk doll has Bill’s intense stare, and Spock is a handsome recreation of young Nimoy (right down to his eye- shadow)

Of course this isn’t the first time Mattel has aimed itself at Trek fans — back in 1996, they produced a cute Star Trek Barbie and Ken.  Barbie’s high ponytail with a braid  was a direct rip-off of Yeoman Martha Landon from The Apple,  (unfortunately, Celeste Yarnall didn’t receive a cent). Ken was the standard Ken, but with a ready Kirk grin. The box featured a backdrop still of K& S on the bridge, making it perfect for display.

Mattel gambled (and lost) a bundle in overproducing the Anniversary set; they must have presumed that they’d make a fortune off of rabid fans, but it didn’t come to pass, and you can still find quite a few on secondary markets.  It’s a cute set, I actually had one, and let my boys play with them when they were youngsters.

Not to be outdone– the San Diego Comic Con has two retro Trek dolls to die for.  The first is another from Mattel, but only exclusive to Comic Con attendees.  😦  It’s a fully articulated Vina from The Cage! ($50) It’s more a green Orion than Susan Oliver, but it’s a joy to see; especially the recreation of the lizard dress.

 

 

Then from (Mattel’s) Hot Wheels, there’s a diorama of Nimoy dressed as Spock, leaning against his beloved ’64 Buick Rivera. It’s the 3D version of this iconic photograph.  These are both fabulous!

For even higher-end merchandise, there’s two companies with dazzling, and remarkably realistic figures.  There are figures of Kirk and  Spock from Quantum Mechanix.  These beauties will set you back @ $180 each, but if you’re die-hard enough for incredible likenesses, this is for you. The figures are thoroughly articulated with all the accoutrements of phaser, communicator, and tricorder. One surprising aspect of the costuming is that includes the rarely seen light brown phaser belt that hung under the uniforms in season 1!  Truly remarkable, heck, they even have 5 0’clock shadow!

It even appears that the insignias are sewn on!

 

 

Not to be outdone, but the next set is my favorite of all– from the Mezco One: Twelve Collective comes the ultimate and truly most astonishing Trek figures I’ve ever seen!  There are three figures so far, Kirk, Spock, and Sulu, and I do believe there are more to come. They each have great accessories and a stand with the Trek delta patch on them, and Sulu even gets a sword!  But the best part is that they have interchangeable hands and heads! (two facial expressions each).   The likenesses are so lovingly rendered it’s like they’ve walked right off the screen!  Kirk’s face has both serious and gentle Kirk-smirk expressions, Sulu has a serious helm expression and a true Sulu smile, and Spock’s has a cool demeanor or his ultimate arched eyebrow! Spock also has mind-meld hands, communicator/phaser hands, and of course the Vulcan Salute)  Can’t wait to see what they’d do with McCoy, Uhura, and the rest…  (Spock and Sulu are out now, Kirk in July)

Mezco has also made a masterful limited edition replica of Spock as he appeared in The Cage. The details are meticulous as always, right down to the shorter haircut, away-team jacket, and vintage phaser.  Just gorgeous.

 

All I can say after seeing these is that one is never too old to play with dolls!

Celeste Update: Merry Celeste-mas!

Hey Everyone!

It’s been a while since my last Celeste update, and I’m happy to report that Celeste is less than $20,000 away from her goal!   I had hoped that she would have reached it by now, but I know it will be reached soon with our help!

Celeste will be taking part in a special Cancer treatment vaccine program in the Grand Cayman Islands next week (She leaves on Thursday 12/10).  She is one of only 15 women selected for this clinical trial, and I wish her good health and a safe journey on this next chapter of her treatments.

Here is some information on the therapy that I am embarking on and the first step for this particular treatment was to harvest my own cancer tissue and store them at StoreMyTumor for this treatment.

This is a Cancer Treatment Vaccine which is Developed With Immunotherapy

Taking a Hiatus. See you in the Fall!

Hey Everyone,

I’m going to be taking some time off for a little while. Hours are building up at work, but more importantly, I have a lot of projects to do at home, as well as needing to get sufficient rest and exercise to get myself in better shape.   I need to lose @ 12 lbs. by the end of September, and my health is paramount. I’m down four already!   😀    It’s a start.

I don’t get as much traffic in the summer anyway, and that’s the way it should be!   I urge you all to get out there and have some fun!  Throw a Frisbee, play badminton, bike, hike, swim,  and do all the glorious things this season blesses is with. It’s almost 1/2 over!

Celeste Update – Cancer Free at Last!

Friends, I am so very happy to relay to you Celeste’s latest update.  She is FREE at LAST of CANCER!   She still has the blood clots, and will have to be on blood thinners for 6 months, but the fact that she is free of the stage 3 ovarian cancer is nothing but miraculous.

Celeste, I’m so happy for you, for you have worked so hard through a lot of hell to come out the other side of this.   YOU MADE IT!!!!  And being home with family and friends will surely improve you recovery and the love from all of us is a great hug of support and joy!  (Jumping with joy here!)

Of course, one has to be tested to be sure the cancer will not return, but I’m sure with love and support, it won’t have a chance.  And Friends, PLEASE remember to CONTINUE to SUPPORT Celeste’s cancer fund. Although the big battle of the physical cancer is mostly finished, the financial battle with seemingly endless bills is barely through.   I suspect that the medical bills for all the procedures so far are still trickling in, and there seems to always be yet another treatment or surgical detail to pay for.  Our support will help Celeste and Nazim meet the $50,000 goal.    At this writing, the fund is currently at  $28,415 — 21,585 to go!  Every little bit, even $5 will help.   I’m back home! My huge abdominal surgery was/is 100% successful. My week in hospital following surgery was a rough and painful one HOWEVER the pathology from the exploratory portion came back mid week and confirmed that I am now cancer free!!!!! From stage 3 ovarian cancer last November, then 6 rounds of chemo, to this happy news. This was the best birthday present ever. I still have the blood clots (DVTs) and must take the daily Lovinox injections which is a blood thinner for the next 6 months at least but no other meds are needed except to finish up the antibiotics which I will do tonight. They sent me home with some other meds that are ok to use as needed during the healing process. The healing period will be 3 months.

I will be continuing my entire alternative cancer regime which is extensive, including daily use of the amazing BEMER device ( http://www.bemeramerica.com/artofwellness) which along with my other protocols and supplements such as MOXXOR ( http://www.Moxxart.com) have worked so beautifully along with mainstream 6 rounds of chemotherapy which I finished up in May.

When I got the news of the biopsies all being negative I got up out of the hospital bed after hugging and thanking my beautiful doctor, did a victory lap in the hospital corridor on my walker. I high-fived the nurses as we passed them as I was virtually sobbing from joy. It was an amazing occasion and one not often seen with Ovarian cancer! That is my oh so happy update for now and the best birthday present I could have ever received!
